First-Time Passports

The United States is issuing passports for the first time since 2007.

Why it matters:

Passports are required documents for international travel. They allow people to enter and exit the country without having to go through immigration procedures.

In addition to providing proof of citizenship and identity, passports help prevent fraud, document residency status, and provide information about the holder’s nationality.

How long does it take to apply?

A Passport Application Form must be submitted online. Applicants can submit their application up to 10 days prior to their intended trip date.

What happens next?

Applicants receive a confirmation email within five days of submitting their application. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please check your spam folder.

Renewing Passports

The United States began issuing passports again on Tuesday. This marks the first time since Sept. 11, 2001, that Americans have been able to renew their passport online without having to physically go to a government office.

Passport applications are now being accepted via the US Passport Application Online System (US PAS). The system allows applicants to apply for a new passport, request a replacement passport, update personal information, obtain a digital photo, and print out a hard copy of their application. Applicants must provide basic biographical data, including name, date of birth, gender, nationality, place of birth, citizenship status, Social Security number, driver’s license number, and signature. They must also upload one recent photograph and pay for the process.

Applicants can choose to use either a paper form or a secure web interface to complete the application. Paper forms are still available at post offices nationwide, while the Web interface requires a computer with Internet access and Adobe Reader installed.

A few things to note about the online renewal process:

• There is no passport fee associated with applying for a passport online; however, there is a processing fee per passport application.

• Applicants must verify their identity prior to completing the application. To do this, they must submit a document proving their identity such as a utility bill, bank statement, paycheck stub, or government identification card.

• A passport cannot be renewed online if it expires within six months of submission. In addition, some states require additional documents such as school records or proof of employment.

Apply for a First-Time Passport

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the launch of its online application system for passports and visas. This includes applications for citizenship, permanent residence, and travel documents such as tourist, student, and work visas.

The USCIS says it plans to make passport and visa processing faster, easier, and more secure for applicants. Applicants will now be able to apply for a passport and/or visa online without having to go to a physical location. They will also receive confirmation emails once their applications are submitted.

Applicants must provide basic information about themselves, including name, date of birth, gender, nationality, address, Social Security number, and email address. After submitting this information, applicants will be asked to upload photos and complete additional forms.

Applicants will have the option to pay passport fees via credit card or bank account transfer (debit card). Fees include expedited processing, standard processing, and expedited processing plus the cost of mailing the passport.

Applicants will be required to wait up to 10 business days for the passport to arrive. If you want to pick it up sooner, you will have to pay another fee.

Getting or Renewing a U.S. Passport

The United States passport program is one of the most popular travel documents around the world. In fact, it’s been ranked as the best passport in the world since 2011. But what happens if you want to renew or apply for a new one? How do you go about getting one? And how much does it cost?

We’ve got some answers for you. Read on to find out everything you need to know about passports and the process of applying for one.

What is a US passport?

A passport is a document that allows you to travel internationally. Your passport contains information such as your name, date of birth, nationality, gender, and photo. You must present your passport upon entering a foreign country. If you don’t have a valid passport, you won’t be allowed into the country.

How do I get one?

If you are under 18 years old, you automatically receive a free U.S. passport when you turn 16. Otherwise, you can either apply for a U.S. passport online or pick up a paper copy at a local post office. To apply for a passport online, you’ll need to provide your full legal name, address, Social Security number, date of birth, and passport expiration date. Once you complete the application form, you’ll receive a confirmation email with further instructions.

To obtain a passport at a post office, you’ll have to bring proof of citizenship like a driver’s license or state ID card. You’ll also need to pay for the application fee plus the processing fee. After you submit the paperwork, you’ll be given a receipt and mailed a passport within six weeks.

How to Quickly Obtain a Passport

If you want to travel abroad and don’t know where to start, it might be worth looking into getting a passport. But how do you go about doing that?

The good news is that there are plenty of ways to apply for one quickly. So long as you’re willing to put in some effort, you’ll soon have your passport in hand.

1. Apply online

One of the easiest ways to apply for a passport is online. All you really need to do is fill out a form, pay a fee, and wait for your application to arrive in the mail. This process typically takes less than three weeks.

2. Go to Your Local Post Office

Another option is to head to your local post office to pick up an application. You can usually find forms here. If you live in a rural area, you may even find someone who can help you complete the paperwork in person.

3. Call the National Passport Information Center

Benefits of an e-passport

An e-passport is a digital travel document that allows you to enter and exit countries without having to show a passport. An e-passport is different from a physical passport because it doesn’t contain a photo and it can’t be used to board international flights. Instead, it contains information about you like your name, date of birth, gender, nationality, and biometric data such as fingerprints and iris scans. You can use an e-passport to apply for visas, access government services, open bank accounts, enroll in school, and even rent apartments.

The benefits of an e-passport are numerous. For example, you don’t have to carry around bulky documents. Your personal information stays safe online. And you can easily update your profile whenever needed. Plus, there are no fees associated with applying for one.

E-passports come in three sizes: small, medium, and large. Small e-passports are typically smaller than credit cards, while larger ones are similar in size to passports. They’re usually less expensive than traditional passports, too.

You can download the free Passbook app on iOS devices or Android phones to manage your e-passport info. This includes adding photos, updating your profile, and viewing visa requirements.
